Participants will learn how to optimise aquatic treadmill settings by manipulating water height, incline, resistance, and speed variations to target specific rehabilitation goals. Therapeutic exercise and movement shaping techniques will be covered to enhance proprioception, muscle engagement, and joint mobility, with a strong focus on tailoring treatment protocols for orthopaedic, neurological, and post-surgical rehabilitation, as well as performance conditioning. Emphasis is placed on assessing the individual and clinical decision making to ensure safe and effective treatment, alongside professional responsibilities such as ethical practice, legal compliance, and record-keeping.

This unit equips learners with the essential skills and knowledge to perform comprehensive canine assessments within a clinically reasoned framework. In this unit, learners will develop advanced clinical competencies and refine proprioceptive treatment techniques for using an aquatic treadmill in canine hydrotherapy. They will integrate their understanding of canine assessment, behaviour, functional anatomy, breed-specific traits, and the pathophysiology of various conditions to select and apply appropriate treatment strategies. The unit encompasses a broad range of practical skills, including therapeutic preparation, safe equipment operation, controlled entry and exit procedures, and continuous health monitoring throughout treatment sessions. Learners will also explore the application of manual therapy, movement shaping, and therapeutic exercises to enhance mobility and muscle function. Additionally, they will develop expertise in providing effective aftercare, assessing treatment outcomes, and adapting techniques in response to the canine’s progress to ensure optimal rehabilitation and performance.

Over 3 full days of practical training in Stafford, Beverley or Bristol, learners will work with a team of industry experts to gather practical skills and put their knowledge into practice. Learners will work with a range of real life patients with varying conditions, and will be expertly guided. Assessment of practical skills will follow.
